A Leicester DeMontfort 500 Minibus Give Away

Leicester DeMontfort 500 were proud to present Jackie Millerchip, of Hinckley with the keys to a new mini bus at one of their recent business meetings. Jackie, Paula and Jackie’s daughter were invited along to the Regency Hotel in Leicester to collect the keys.

Following the presentation, LDM500 heard that after working as a child minder for several years, Jackie decided about seven years ago that she wanted to do more to help disabled children. Having applied for a grant to set up a sensory cabin in her garden, she set about transforming her home into a round-the-clock centre for children with disabilities. Jackie started with a £22,000 grant from Leicestershire County Council, but has ploughed thousands of pounds of her savings into her work and relies on donations and fund-raising. She has 39 youngsters who stay with her for anything from a few hours to several days, with more on a waiting list. The mum-of-two employs four other people, including one of her daughters, and is in the process of registering the centre as a charity.

Jackie told us ‘the minibus will make a huge difference to the activities we can provide including day trips, the kids will love it. I am sure it will get plenty of use’.

Huge thanks go to Paul Lomas for forming the contact with Jackie and sourcing a suitable bus and also to Farmer and Carlisle of Loughborough for ensuring its road worthiness and providing the MOT.
