Crown Green Bowling Results

Area 14’s very own Sports Superstar Mike “Brian Jacks” Richardson reports from the latest Area sporting challenge.

Following a fantastic night out last week please find below the results and some pictures from the night thank to Matt Brody from Melton and Kaeed from Melton and Leicester (who were the only ones for remember a camera – thank you).

Once everyone had arrived at Nooky Ash – sorry, Greasley – indoor bowling centre they were greeted by the ever jovial boys from Swadlincote with the words “the bar is over there but don’t move an inch until you have paid”. This was a bit of a shock for the DeMontfort boys as they had all forgotten their money!

The event was split in to league format with the winners going through to the quarter finals to decide who would make it to the last four. After some close games involving all the tables the semis were contested between Hucknall, Swadlincote, Grantham & Derby Merlin. Both semis were hotly contested with Grantham & Swadlincote going through the the grand final with Hucknall & Derby Merlin playing off for 3rd & 4th.

The final standings were

  • 1st place – Grantham 10 points
  • 2nd place – Swadlincote 8 points
  • 3rd place – Hucknall 6 points
  • 4th place – Derby Merlin 4 points

All the other teams outside the top 4 received 2 points each.

Nice stance there Kev. Oh, and the jack is where nobody is looking.

One bonus point was awarded as follows:-

  • Ilkeston – As the table most likely to attend but not actually making it – Roberts team mate pulled out at the last minute.
  • Hucknall – Kev Brown for having the campest stance caught on camera (see abve)
  • Melton Mowbray – Just look at Tim’s photo attached enough said I think!

Tim from Melton Mowbray Roundtable. Erm...

Many thanks to the Greasley indoor bowling centre for the food and drink service and generally putting up with us.
All the boys at Swadlincote for organising a great event and opening many peoples eyes to the exciting ‘sport’ called bowls.
Keith Bedford and the boys from Grantham how broke their Area 14 sports virginity for 2009/2010.
