Beeston’s Revenge

Fun & Fellowship – Round Table At It’s Best!

Beeston’s Mike Richardson reports.

Many thanks to all the people who attended the cricket match between Beeston and Long Eaton on the 11th July 2008. The weather stayed off and your support was magnificent. Although we were not intending to make this a fund raising event we managed to collect over £300.00.

Thanks to Long Eaton for rising to the challenge and putting in a sporting display which unfortunately was not good enough. Long Eaton scored 48 runs off their 12 overs (of which 24 were wides – note: must practice before the game next year). Beeston & District ran out winners with 2.3 over to spare.

This resulted in Beeston winning back the Roberts Cock Trophy & the Sporting Trophy. Whilst receiving the trophies from Dave ‘Golden Duck’ Welch Long Eaton ladies leapt to their aid by offering us our banner back – which was swagged after our 50th charter last year – in exchange for the sporting trophy.

We accepted the banner and returned the trophy back to Long Eaton awaiting their challenge.

Thank you to Attenborough Cricket Club, Bosco ‘Hygenix’ Townsend for his excellent catering, Andy Moore & Paul Goring for their unbiased umpiring & scoring. Long Eaton RT, Hucknall RT (broughy, crampo & families) Beeston 41, Long Eaton Ladies Circle and all unmentioned friends & county men/ women who attended.
